Before we purchased our house, we knew we would partition off the giant 'family room' over the garage and create a screened porch at the back of the house. During deconstruction, we found the original ceiling in this space was tongue and groove beaded board and the structure consisted of 6x6 Douglas Fir post and beam construction. There is also evidence of an old stove and the same tile that was originally on the exterior walk. My thought is this used to be a three-seasons room over the garage. It's a bit of a thrill to think we are returning and reviving, with a modern twist, the original intent of this space. BUT, my favorite part of this project has been the wood. The walls were framed with 2x6 Douglas Fir as well. So the amazing husband part of the team, has sanded and shaped those 2x6s to be caps on the low wall and to frame the siding. The equally amazing wife, sealed the wood with BioShield Hard Oil. Super gorgeous, reused wood for our porch. Can't wait to sit out there and drink those cocktails!
